Executive Media Training

Executive Media Training offered by Cathy Dornan Public Affairs is aimed at senior leaders who are preparing to be a potential spokesperson for their organization. Organizations need to have many people prepared to speak publically on their behalf. There will likely be a key member of the Executive team who takes this role, but others should be prepared as back up or stand in.  Organizations must also train other members of the executive team in case of a very specific issue that requires technical expertise.

Each media training session is tailored to the goals of your organization taking into consideration any specific issues or opportunities on the horizon.

Executive media training sessions can accommodate 1-6 participants.

Executive sessions run from 9 am – 3 pm.

Executive sessions include camera operator and lighting.

Participants will undergo between 3-5 interviews throughout the day

  2. Cold interviews
  3. Understanding the Media
  4. Emerging Social Media Trends
  5. Examining the Newfoundland Media market and its uniqueness
  6. Discussion around potential organization scenarios
  7. Development of key messages
  8. Interview techniques for scrums, stand ups, double ender, phone interviews
  9. Focus on good delivery of messages
  10. Live on Camera sit down interviews
  11. Review and critique interviews

Group Media Training

Group Media Training offered by Cathy Dornan Public Affairs is aimed groups within an organization who may at some time be called upon to do a media interview.  This group would be infrequent spokespersons but still require a good understanding of the process used to prepare for a media interview.

This training program follows a similar format as the executive training in content.  The major difference is the amount and the intensity of the on camera interviews.

Each media training session is tailored to the goals of your organization taking into consideration any specific issues or opportunities on the horizon.

Group media training sessions can accommodate 1 – 15 participants.

Group sessions run from 9 am – 4 pm.

Group sessions include camera operator and lighting.

Participants will undergo 1-2 interviews throughout the day

Responder Training

Cathy Dornan Public Affairs also offers a program of media training for those who may interact with the media but are not intended to be spokespersons for the organization.  It is their job to answer the calls, collect information, relay the media request to the appropriate person while ensuring they do not speak in an official capacity on behalf of the organization.

This is a half day session for those who are actually being taught how to not be a spokesperson.  They are being taught how to interact with the media, deal with their probing while at the same time protecting the organization from unwanted media clips.

Responder media training sessions can accommodate 1 – 15 participants.

Responder sessions run from 9 am –12:30 pm.

Responder sessions include camera operator and lighting.

A half day Responder session follows this agenda

  1. Understanding the Media
  2. Emerging Social Media Trends
  3. Examining the Newfoundland Media market and its uniqueness
  4. Discussion around potential organization scenarios
  5. Development of key responses for media calls
  6. Simulated media call practice
  7. How to deliver approved information in a responsible way
  8. Managing media interaction in a crisis
